700 POINT UPSET!

Check out the games section to see Jullian Billings USCF 1108 beat Chad Eller USCF 1820. After running the game thru Rybka the game went back and forth several times but Jullian has notched a very fine win with his kingside attack. It was a game 30 with a 5 second delay with Chad having to resign with 20 seconds left on Jullians clock. Check out the games section to see this one.

PAWN II !!!!!!!!

PAWN II will be held October 2nd at the W. Kerr Scott Visitor Center in Wilkesboro. The first PAWN drew 19 players and over 85% of the prize fund was paid out ( PAWN is set up to pay out 75% but organizer Denver Owens upped the pay out when there was a log jam for 2nd place, THANKS DENVER!) We are in the process of making this a Grand Prix points tournament. For details click HERE!

Denver Owens
Denver and his brother John started the Wilkes County Chess club in October of 2008. It can be considered strange how well the chess club has grown in an area such as Wilkes. However, when you consider the time, effort and financial support Denver has donated to the club it's no suprise at all. Denver is the club's TD and has several tournaments under his belt, including the successfull PAWN I. His playing strength has not yet caught up to his rating (1325) as he has defeated both Steve Greenlee (1600) and Chad Eller (1820) on multiple occassions.
